An Evening With Umphrey's McGee
Umphrey's McGee is an American band from Chicago, deftly shuttling between styles, from straight-up pop and rock to jazz, prog-metal, and classical. Though the band's approach to their live performances has much in common with Phish and the Grateful Dead, they are much more influenced musically by progressive rock bands such as King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Frank Zappa, and Genesis, as well as heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden.
Umphrey's McGee is Brendan Bayliss (guitar, vocals), Jake Cinninger (guitar, Moog, synthesizers, vocals), Joel Cummins (keyboards, vocals), Andy Farag (percussion), Kris Myers (drums, vocals), and Ryan Stasik (bass, no vocals).
Umphrey’s McGee’s 2007 release Live at the Murat received rave reviews from Rolling Stone Magazine, and Washington Post named the band “rock’s undisputed lord of sonic shape-shifting.” Umphrey's McGee is currently working on a new studio album, to be released in early 2009 called Mantis.
