DanceVisions Spring Concert
Performing works by guest artists and student company members, DanceVisions presents a diverse mix of modern, lyrical, hip-hop, and African dance.
The concert includes work by guest artists Joan Nicholas-Walker and Fareedha Kai' Williams-Appah; pieces by students Kelly Colbert, Tanesha Lee, Troy Pinkins, and Shanasia Wise; and a special opening and finale choreographed collaboratively by all the DanceVisions .The Dance Program offers opportunities in performance through two student companies. Both companies hold an audition each fall to select members for the current academic year, and the NCSU Dance Company also holds two auditions in the spring semester to select members for the following year.
The NCSU Dance Company, a modern dance company, has been recognized for excellence on both regional and national levels by the American College Dance Festival Association and has been selected to perform in numorous National Galas, including performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2002 and 2004. The company performs work choreographed by Artistic Director Robin Harris, Assistant Director Autumn Mist Belk and acclaimed guest artists. The NCSU Dance Company performs in the Dance Program Fall Concert, presents a formal spring concert at NC State, attends and performs at the American College Dance Festival and performs at many other venues each year. Students rehearse 3-5 days a week, take a weekly modern technique class and receive academic credit for their work in the company.
DanceVisions, a group of energetic students whose focus is the sharing and exploration of dance styles ranging from modern and jazz to African and hip hop, presents works from many cultural and technical perspectives. The company presents works by the artistic director, student company members and various guest artists during an annual spring concert at NC State and throughout the year at various community outreach events. DanceVisions, operated as a student organization, holds 2-3 rehearsals per week and hosts periodic social events for the student company members.
The theme of this year's spring concert is entitled "Taking Chances." Come see North Carolina State University's very own DanceVisions Dance Company take a chance as they leave their heart, energy, and passion for the art on the stage for all to witness and experience.
