Fifty Years of Computing at the University of Cincinnati
The University of Cincinnati would like to invite you to attend a
once in a lifetime event celebrating UC’s innovation, achievement, and
leadership in computing on November 10 & 11, 2008.
The
first computer on UC’s campus was dedicated on June 1, 1958. It was an
IBM–650 and was obtained, in part, from a grant from CG&E (now Duke
Energy) and a National Science Foundation grant spearheaded by UC’s Dr.
Paul Herget. However, even before its arrival, UC alumni, faculty, and
staff had already distinguished themselves in this new world. From the
arts and entertainment to medicine and from business to science, UC has
had a profound impact on the computing world.
The
goal of this conference is to highlight these achievements and to
recognize those who have played a vital role in advancing the field of
computing in their respective disciplines. The conference will examine
the past, present and future of ubiquitous computing. This also is a
unique opportunity for the Greater Cincinnati region to learn about its
own computing history as well.
